Types of Windchill Data Migration:

Windchill To Windchill

In this type of migration, Windchill Bulk Migrator offers a complete solution to extract data from the source Windchill and load data into the target Windchill.

In this type of migration WBM offers a complete solution to extract data from source Windchill and load data into target Windchill.
The main steps are:

WBM loaders are installed on the target Windchill system and connected to staging database too

Staging database is created

WBM extractors are installed on the source Windchill system and connected to staging database

WBM extractors mapping files are configured to allow transformation of data on the fly when needed

Extraction can be done using standard extraction (all objects of specified types are extracted) or using filtered extraction (only objects matching specific properties, ids ... are extracted).

Normalization takes place in the staging database to thoroughly validate references among related objects, ensuring data consistency and integrity across all interconnected entities.

Pre load validation is then executed to confirm that references on target system do exist

Data are loaded into Windchill target

Once validated as correct data is then published to public domain for end users to access.
In this type of migration the extraction and transformation is not provided within the scope of WBM and needs to be executed by the implementation team
Once data is loaded into staging database, WBM tools can be used as in a Windchill to Windchill migration, to load data into target Windchill.
